Rogers County hosted its first annual BOOST employment event last week, adding a twist on the traditional job search. Nearly 20 candidates registered to meet with employers across various industry sectors. Unlike a typical job fair format, BOOST placed the job seeker behind that table to share their employment goals. Candidates utilized resumes and other visual aids to showcase their unique skills, personality, and abilities to prospective employers. Employers went through the room visiting with prospective candidates that best met their business needs.

“We found the Rogers County Boost event to be very beneficial for candidates,” said Melanie Price, Branch Manager of People Source Staffing Professionals. “The event provided a relaxed environment, in which candidates are behind the table, with a resume in front of them, prepared and confident. BOOST was the perfect way to conduct a job fair. I highly encourage both employers and job seekers to participate in future events.”

The morning began with an interview coaching session by Ben Barnett with Cherokee Nation, followed by individualized practice prior to employer arrival. After lunch, job seekers and employers had the opportunity to connect to discuss various job opportunities available within Rogers County.

Organizations across Rogers County collaborated to fund, plan and host the event. Participating agencies included: Cherokee Nation Career Services, which provided the event’s keynote speaker Ben Barnett, Light of Hope, Rogers County District Attorney’s Office, Oklahoma Works, Northeast Oklahoma Workforce Development Board, Claremore Industrial and Economic Development Authority, and the Claremore Community Center.

Talent Development Manager for Claremore Industrial & Economic Development Authority, Meggie Froman-Knight shared, “The unique format of BOOST provided an effective and efficient way to connect job seekers with potential careers. Rogers County has a unique ability to bring together many different organizations to work collectively toward the same goal. BOOST is the perfect example of how innovative thinking and open-minds can help solve challenges for our region.”
