Letter from the Chairman:
2016 was a year we can all be proud of in Claremore! When I retired as superintendent of Tulsa Public Schools, so many of my friends and colleagues inquired as to how I would spend my time. At the top of my list was my involvement with the Claremore Industrial & Economic Development Authority. Economic development is important to me and now is the time in Claremore’s history that we can move forward.
One of the most important initiatives we launched through my involvement with CIEDA has been Claremore Collective, a young professional’s organization. Claremore Collective is the future of our great community. Engaging the young leaders today will ensure our success tomorrow. We have so many talented individuals involved in this endeavor and they took the stage in 2016 in force.
Another initiative CIEDA continued to bring forward in 2016 was Partners in Education. There’s no question education is important to me and my family. The key to a successful economic development program is an investment in education. Partners in Education provides schools with access to CIEDA’s business relationships. Our schools are the conduit for our workforce, which is key to any growing community.
An additional facet of CIEDA’s involvement in education that I am proud of was our sponsorship of Junior Achievement’s BizTown program. We were proud to sponsor every Claremore 5th grader to attend BizTown. The students will walk away with a deeper appreciation for entrepreneurship, financial literacy and commerce. This unforgettable experience will be with our students throughout their lives.
The work I do through CIEDA is my most important work and I’m proud of 2016 and look forward to 2017. We have much to be excited about!
