Ensuring a Skilled Workforce Through Student Engagement
With the continued upturn in Oklahoma's economy, northeast Oklahoma is poised for significant growth in the coming years. To ensure the region is positioned to address its future workforce needs, the Claremore Industrial and Economic Development Authority (CIEDA) is partnering with local Future Farmers of America (FFA) chapters and area manufacturers for potential student internships/placement.
Through this program, CIEDA aims to educate area students about the career pathways available in their own backyard and assist our local manufacturing partners in developing the next generation of workforce.
Importance of Future Farmers of America
Students engaged in local high school Agriculture Mechanics programs already have a heightened interest in manufacturing. Additionally, these courses provide students with a strong foundation to build upon for the skills needed in their future careers. By partnering with local agriculture education instructors, CIEDA can directly connect with career-bound students with local manufacturing entities looking to expand their workforce.
As a part of this initiative, CIEDA's manufacturing partners train student participants through either internships or by hiring the students as part-time employees. Many of the program participants have been hired upon graduation as a full-time employee.
